‘The true beauty of Indian democracy is its fame. People rule automatically through their representatives. The elected representatives represent and make laws in the interest of the people. Your judiciary is independent and your constitution is supreme,’ Rijiju tweeted.
Rijiju has said that the collegium system for the appointment of judges is against the constitution of India in view of the increasing conflict between the central government and the judiciary over the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court and High Courts. Meanwhile, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar would have criticized the Supreme Court for canceling the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act (NJAC) and related incidents.
What would Sodhi have said?
‘Supreme Court cannot make laws, because it is not the right of the court. Parliament has the right to make laws. Can you fix the incident? Only Parliament can rectify the incident. But I think, for the first time, the Supreme Court has ‘hijacked’ the state event. Then they (Supreme Court) said that we will appoint (judges) automatically and the government has no role in it,’ Justice Sodhi would have said when interviewed.
