Restrictions remain in Assam-Meghalaya;  internet service down for a while


Guwahati : Penalty 144 imposed after the violence in the disputed area on the inter-state border between Assam and Meghalaya has been maintained only after five days of reversal. Violence would have erupted on Tuesday morning after a truck carrying illegal transport of forest guards to Lakdanchi in Assam was stopped. Six tribal Gaokris from Meghalaya and one forest guard from Assam would have died in this. ‘We are telling the citizens of Assam not to go to Meghalaya at present. However, some people started going due to emergency, while vehicles registered in Meghalaya are allowed to go,’ the police gave this information.

The Meghalaya government has suspended mobile internet service in West and East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, East West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills. This restriction will be extended for another 48 hours till 10.30 am on Monday morning, as well as relief, such information has been received in the notification circulated by the Principal Secretary, Home Department, Shakeel Ahmed.
