Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit has refused permission to convene a special session on September 22 to bring a trust vote in the Punjab Assembly. The Governor has clarified in his order that there is no legal provision to call a special session only to prove the confidence motion. After this decision of the governor, AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said – it was forbidden to call the session at the behest of the BJP.
Decision after taking legal opinion
In this matter, the Governor had sought legal opinion from Additional Solicitor General Satyapal Jain. To this, Jain said that there is no specific provision in the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the Punjab Legislative Assembly with regard to convening the Assembly to consider only a ‘Motion of Confidence’.
Let us inform that Congress Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and MLA and Punjab BJP President Ashwani Sharma had raised questions on convening the session.
