A tremendous jump in pollution has been recorded in Agra due to excavation and burning of garbage. On Monday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) at eight out of 10 places in the city crossed the very dangerous level of 400, which is very bad for the health of the people. Due to increasing pollution, a blanket of smog covered the evening. It has been foggy since morning on Tuesday as well.
Pollution was highest on major routes including Tehsil, Amar Hotel, ISBT and Sanjay Place. Dangerous PM 2.5, PM 10 and carbon monoxide levels were above normal. The AQI in the Smart City sensor at Tehsil intersection reached 470, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board’s automatic monitoring station at Sanjay Place reached 419, while the low AQI was recorded at 106 in Dayalbagh.

The amount of extremely dangerous carbon monoxide increased to 34 times the normal. Not only this, the amount of very fine particulate matter 2.5 in the city is running beyond 500. There has been a sudden increase in the Air Quality Index as the amount of PM 10 particles has crossed 500.
The AQI at Sanjay Place was around 350 till noon, but it jumped to between 415 and 420 after 7 pm in the evening. Traffic remained high during the day due to the first Monday after Diwali holidays, due to which the AQI on all major routes along Sanjay Place and ISBT was recorded in poor condition.
water sprinkling insufficient
The Municipal Corporation has started the work of sprinkling water on MG Road, MG Road-2 and Mall Road through sprinklers, but it is insufficient. Due to the thick layer of dust deposited on the plants and dividers, the dust is flying on the road while the vehicles are moving.
Roads of more than two thousand km in the city are dilapidated and broken, where dust clouds are coming out due to plying of vehicles. Most of the asthma and respiratory patients are reaching the medical college from places including Albatia Road, Bodla Maruti Estate Road, Fatehabad Road, Bagh Farzana.
