Mumbai : Karan Johar, Pooja Bhatt and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub have hailed the success of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Pathan’ as a “victory for love”. . The film earned around Rs 57 crore on the first day at the box office in the country. Produced under the banner of film production company ‘Yash Raj Films’, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in lead roles.

People associated with the film industry were pinning high hopes on the film not only for Shahrukh but also for removing the dark clouds hanging over Hindi cinema. According to the production company ‘Yash Raj Films’, the film grossed a total of Rs 55 crore in the country. According to him, “This is the highest opening day gross of any Hindi film”. The film has also been released in Tamil and Telugu languages. In these languages, the film earned Rs 2 crore. Shah Rukh’s close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar congratulated the people associated with ‘Pathan’ for reportedly earning Rs 100 crore worldwide.

The filmmaker wrote in an Instagram story on Thursday, “Across the century. 100 crores in a single day. Greatest superstar Shah Rukh, YRF and Adi (producer Aditya Chopra), Siddh (director Siddharth Anand), Deepika and John… Amazing. Love always wins over hate. Remember this day.” Actress Pooja Bhatt tweeted, “Love in action. Pathan. Thank you Shahrukh for giving more than films.” Zeeshan, who worked with Shah Rukh in films ‘Raees’ and ‘Zero’, said he watched the film late at night and the theater was 95 per cent full. He tweeted, “Pyaar ki jeet hoti hai and Shah Rukh sir, you are the same love. Deepika Padukone superb. John Abraham Strong. Congratulations to the entire team, Yash Raj Films, Siddharth Anand.”

Amidst the demand to boycott the film and the controversy surrounding the song ‘Besharam Rang’, the initial reactions of the audience and critics have come as a big relief to the Hindi film industry. The film was also in the news for ‘advance booking’. Till Tuesday, 4.19 lakh tickets of ‘Pathan’ were sold. Even during the morning shows of 6 and 7 o’clock, the theaters were filled up to 80 percent. Yash Raj Films on Wednesday said it has decided to run one more late night show of the film across the country after the film received encouraging results for its ‘advance bookings’.

According to film trade expert Taran Adarsh, the film is being screened on 300 more screens considering the audience’s enthusiasm about the film. Pathan is now releasing on 8500 screens worldwide. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan, has described the overwhelming response to the film as “a personal success”. He tweeted, “Met him. Hug them. danced with them It feels like a personal success.”

Filmmaker Satish Kaushik, actor Anupam Kher, director Onir, actress Dia Mirza, Kangana Ranaut among others congratulated Shah Rukh and others associated with the film for the success of ‘Pathan’. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who worked with Shah Rukh in ‘Raees’, shared a picture of Shah Rukh cheering him and wrote, “Five years ago…my Pathan.” The film ‘Raees’ was released five years ago in 2017 on January 25 only. According to film experts, ‘Pathan’ is likely to earn well till the fifth day of its release. (agency)
