NagpurAustralia skipper Pat Cummins admitted that his team failed to actively tackle the rival bowlers during their crushing defeat in the first Test against India here on Saturday. In an innings and 132-run defeat to India, the Australian team could only manage 177 runs and 91 runs in both innings.
Asked what went wrong with his team, Cummins said, “It’s hard to know.” It will be reviewed in the next few days. I think everybody came with a clear plan.” Cummins said in the press conference after the match, “The challenge was to face it strongly and stay active. This will be discussed in the next few days. We faced very tough bowlers.

Cummins was very clear about the fact that his team’s defensive game would take them nowhere on Indian pitches. He said, “You saw Steve Smith and Alex Carey, they put pressure on the bowlers at times. I think it takes some courage, but it’s easier said than done. If you are facing consecutive deliveries from a good bowler, you will get out on one of these. It will be discussed this week. ,
Cummins did not give a satisfactory answer to his team being reduced to one season. He said, “If we play in India, the match moves quickly. If you have created pressure then it is a good thing. But it can be really challenging if you’re lagging behind. I think their bowlers bowled really well. They put pressure on us and next time we have to find a way to deal with them. ,
