Pakistan's former PM Imran Khan announces his party will resign from all assemblies

PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced at a public meeting in Rawalpindi, Pakistan that his party has decided to resign from all assemblies. This news has been given by the news agency ANI quoting Pakistan media. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party supremo and former Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Rawalpindi on Saturday for the first time after the Wazirabad attack along with a team of doctors and a relative to address a big rally. Meanwhile, the police have written to top PTI leaders asking them to implement security measures for Imran. Imran has been advised not to leave the vehicle and wear a bulletproof jacket before reaching the rally venue.

The attack took place on 3 November

Imran had started the Hakiki Azadi March demanding early general elections in Pakistan. He was attacked during the march on November 3. Imran, who was injured by the bullet, had postponed the march. PTI leaders say that the Rawalpidi rally will be completely peaceful. Since morning, the caravan of Imran supporters started marching towards Rawalpidi. A large number of supporters have also reached Rawalpidi. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the attack on Imran during the Haqiqi Azadi March in Wazirabad has stopped functioning following the suspension of its chief.

Tension over Dogar’s appointment

“The JIT has stopped functioning after the Federal Services Tribunal cleared the government’s decision to suspend Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, the Lahore police chief and head of the investigation team,” a senior Punjab Police official said. There is a tussle between the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and the government of Punjab province regarding the appointment of Dogar. Imran’s PTI is in power in Punjab.
