On this day, 10 years back, the Nirbhaya incident took place on the streets of Delhi. This scandal shook the whole country. The culprits of this incident were hanged three years back. The culprits of Nirbhaya included six people including Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta. In this, an accused named Ramsingh committed suicide by hanging himself in jail and a minor was released from the reform home. One of the accused in this was a resident of Basti district.
One of the accused Pawan Gupta was also among these convicts. Who was a resident of Jagannathpur village of Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. Two days before the hanging, there was silence in this village. While Pawan’s relatives were keeping silence, the villagers were also accepting it as a rule of law.
Pawan’s entire family lives in Delhi, but some of his relatives and strippers live in the village. Janardan Goswami of the village told that it has been 10 years since the incident of Nirbhaya incident, but this village is still roaming with its stigma. Sanjay Kumar said that the Nirbhaya incident was a dark day for the village. Pawan got punished for this, but his sin is still being suffered by the villagers.
Remembering the day of the hanging, Sanjay Goswami says that everyone in the village had received information that Pawan was about to be hanged. During that time there was mourning in the whole village. People here knew Pawan since childhood. His nature was not the same on the charge for which he was sentenced to death. The village priest Dayanand Goswami said that the rule of law cannot be avoided. Although Pawan was very simple in childhood.
Sukhai Nishad of the village said that Pawan got involved in this scandal after being misled by someone. He was not of this nature at all. Ram Dayal of the village said that when Pawan used to come to the village from Delhi, he used to play only with the children here. His childhood memories are related to this village.
