The manner in which the ruling Congress sidelined its senior members in the Zilla Parishad due to factionalism, in the election of the post of president first from the ST category and then in the election of subject committee chairpersons, the result is now visible. Members who rebelled at the time of election for the post of president and only one faction was given chair in the election of chairman, the angry members of the party are now going outside their party line and working to surround the office bearers in meetings and general meetings.
A similar scene was seen in the meeting held on 5th December. The rebels of the ruling party are now openly supporting the opposition BJP, due to which the opposition, which was marginalized during the last two and a half years, has got a booster. In the first meeting chaired by the newly appointed Speaker Mukta Kokadde, the opposition prevailed on every issue as it got the support of the rebels. Rebel member Nana Kambhale was seen sitting in BJP’s camp along with BJP’s Subhash Gujarkar and Shinde faction Shiv Sena member Sanjay Jhade. He also supported the opposition in protest by throwing mike, files and desk.
Quiet members also started raising their voice
Before every meeting, the meeting of the party members has been held at the president’s bungalow. The strategy of the party is decided in such meetings. In this meeting, some members, who always remain calm and agree to every decision of the chairman, were also seen raising their voice against the discriminatory distribution of funds in the circles. Arun Hatwar strongly demanded amendment in the decisions of fund distribution from the Speaker. Also sought answers on many issues. The senior most member Shanta Kumre who always stood up for the defense of party functionaries using her experiences, remained silent throughout. She was the strongest contender for the post of president, but former minister Sunil Kedar gave a chance to the office-bearers of his choice. When the names were finalized in the election of the president and chairpersons, the discussion started that further the role of angry members in Congress was clearly visible. The challenge will be in front of the officials
Kokadde does not have the experience of running a meeting. They are new. On the other hand, except the Vice President Kunda Raut, all are new among the Chairmen. Rajkumar Kusumbe has definitely been a member before but he is not aggressive. The opposition has definitely started taking advantage of this. When there is no unity among the ruling party, then the opposition gets a chance. The same is happening now in Zilla Parishad. The opposition can be handled by creating unity, but when only the rebels of the party are with it, then it becomes a challenge. The ruling Congress overpowered the opposition in the first two and a half years. Speaker Rashmi Barve alone used to give a befitting reply to the opposition. The current Speaker was seen giving proceedings in the meeting with the help of Chairman Lekurwale and Vice President Raut. This weakness can become the strength of the opposition. In future, if the opposition has to give a befitting reply, then Kokadde will have to make full preparations.
Complaint to the Divisional Commissioner
Under the leadership of opposition leader Atish Umre, the BJP members have demanded the departmental commissioner to take action against the Zip President, stating that it is out of order to approve all the subjects without discussion in the assembly. Along with this, a demand has also been made to cancel all the decisions of this assembly. During this, rebel member of Congress Nana Kambhale was also with him.
