Mumbai : The construction work of Mumbai’s first underground metro between Colaba-Bandra-Seepz is in full swing. After the tunneling of the Metro is completed, many civil works and stations are rapidly taking shape. The underground stations of Metro-3 are being constructed by the cut and cover method. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MRCL) MD Dr. Ashwani Bhide said that in 2023, there is a plan to start the first phase of Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 from Aarey to BKC for Mumbaikars. For this, all the eight coaches of the second train have been brought. Soon they will be assembled and tested. It is noteworthy that the first train has completed a trial run of over 1,500 km. Metro 3 coaches being prepared at the Alstom plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Necessary trial run of this train will be done in 5 km between ramp at Sariput Nagar and Sahar.

Project director S. According to K Gupta, complete tunneling of 54.5 km up and down line has been done. With the help of 17 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and 1,700 workers, the construction of the 33.5 km long tunnel is 100% complete. A total of 2,86,000 cubic meters of concrete and 29,500 metric tonnes of steel have been used in this work. Apart from this, the track laying work has also been completed up to 50%.

53% of overhead contact system and 88% of electrical connection process installation is complete. In addition, 105 moving gantries (escalators) have been completed. 19 lifts (lifts), 10 platform screen doors and 12 passenger information display systems have been installed at various stations. Besides this, other works in the system are going on in full swing. The work of CSMT, Kalbadevi, Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate and Hutatma Chowk stations is in full swing. MRCL has been awarded the annual award for environmental initiatives at the Tunneling and Underground Space Awards 2022 organized by the Tunneling Association of India.

80% work of the project

According to MMRCL, almost 80% work of Metro 3 project is done. Low Vibrant Technology is being used for laying tracks at underground stations of Metro 3, so that there is no vibration at underground stations and on the road above while the metro is running.
