During the hearing in the case of threatening the jailer, the lawyers appearing for the government in the High Court argued that Mukhtar is the biggest Bahubali in the state. Along with the common people, the government people also fear in his name. Jailor RK Tiwari, who was before jailer SK Awasthi, was also murdered allegedly because Mukhtar did not like the restrictions in jail there. At the same time, the High Court found that the plaintiff, the then jailer SK Awasthi, in his first statement had spoken of Mukhtar threatening him and putting a revolver on his head, but in the latter statement he retracted. The court said that the second statement was recorded ten years after the first statement of the witness. In 2003, Mukhtar was detained in the district jail of Lucknow. Many people used to come to meet him. On April 23, 2003, when some people of Mukhtar came to meet him in the morning, jailor SK Awasthi was present in his office inside the jail.
When he came to know that some people had come to meet Mukhtar, he ordered a search of all. On this Mukhtar got angry and threatened the jailer that today you get out of jail, I will get you killed. He also abused the jailer and pointed the revolver of one of the people who came to meet him.
Mafia Mukhtar was shifted to Banda Jail last year. Earlier he was lodged in Ropar Jail in Punjab. The state government had tried 40 times to bring Punjab here, but it was saved due to one reason or the other. He was later brought to Banda jail on the directions of the court.
He has more than 55 cases registered against him, out of which 40 are registered in the same police station of his home district Ghazipur. Apart from the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, Mukhtar has many serious cases registered against him like inciting riot, murder, dacoity, extortion, kidnapping. Trial is going on in most of the cases.
