Morbi: Jaysukh Patel, Managing Director of Oreva Group, has been sent to judicial custody by the court. Earlier, he had surrendered in a Morbi court on Tuesday in connection with last year’s suspension bridge collapse incident.
It may be noted that in the charge sheet filed by the police on January 27, Oreva Group director Jaysukh Patel was named as an accused. He surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, which issued an arrest warrant against him.

“Jaysukh Patel surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) M J Khan, who had issued an arrest warrant against him,” said advocate Dilip Agechania, representing the victims in the case.

Charge sheet of over 1,200 pages
In the over 1,200-page charge sheet filed by the police in the court, Patel was mentioned as the tenth accused. He had also filed an anticipatory bail petition in view of the apprehension of arrest.
135 people died due to bridge collapse
Notably, 135 people were killed and several others injured when a suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi town in October last year. Besides the nine arrested accused in the charge sheet, Oreva Group Managing Director Jaysukh Patel was named as the tenth accused. All the ten accused, including Patel, were charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 336 (act endangering human life), 337 (by rash or negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Cases have been registered under sections 338 (causing grievous hurt by rash or negligent act) and 338 (causing hurt to any person).
