External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is in the US to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting. During this he shared some memories of Operation Devi Shakti to evacuate Indians from Afghanistan.

Jaishankar narrated an anecdote mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sensitivity and dedication towards his work. External Affairs Minister said- Midnight had passed, I got a call from Prime Minister Modi. His first question was – are you awake? I told them that help reaching Indians is on the way. After this the Prime Minister told me to call me when it reaches. Jaishankar said – This quality of his separates him from others.

He was discussing the book ‘Modi @ 20: Dreams Meet Delivery’ at a special program being held in New York. During this, he mentioned Operation Devi Shakti. Under this operation, Indians were repatriated from Afghanistan. After the Taliban capture of Kabul on 15 August, some Indians were trapped there. The Indian government was constantly trying to get them out.

The Indo American Arts Council organized a special event to discuss the book ‘Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery’.

Modi @ 20: Dreams Meet Delivery is a book written on PM Modi. It has been written by eminent personalities of the country. There are 21 chapters in this book. The foreword of this book was written by late singer Lata Mangeshkar. Jaishankar to address UNGA on September 24
This time, instead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has attended the 77th session of the ongoing UNGA in New York, USA. He will talk in detail here on September 24 on the 5-S formula given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the UN sometime back. According to PM Modi, the elements of the 5-S formula are respect, dialogue, cooperation, peace and prosperity.

The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations. All 193 members of the United Nations are part of it with equal rights and responsibility. All the work like the budget of the UN, the membership of the Security Council, the appointment of non-permanent members is the responsibility of the General Assembly.

Operation Devi Shakti – More than 650 people brought to India

After the Taliban occupation in Afghanistan, the first special flight of the Indian government reached New Delhi from Kabul on 10 December to bring back the stranded Indians there. This operation was named Devi Shakti. Under this, more than 650 people were evacuated from Afghanistan. Among these people were people from the Hindu/Sikh minority community living in Afghanistan. In view of the challenging humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the Indian government also sent humanitarian aid including medical supplies.

The situation in Afghanistan has worsened after the Taliban occupation. There is a starvation-like situation here. In such a situation, India is continuously providing many other types of humanitarian aid along with wheat and medicines to Afghanistan. India has so far sent 20 thousand metric tonnes of wheat, 5 lakh doses of Kovid vaccine and 13 tonnes of medicines to Afghanistan. Warm clothes for the winter are also being sent along with the polio vaccine.
