Mumbai: After the launch of the new Metro 2A and 7 connecting the western suburbs of Mumbai, its effect is also being seen on the local train and Metro-1. While the congestion in the local of Western Railway has reduced slightly, the number of passengers in Metro-1 has increased. According to the MMRDA, the Ghatkopar-Versova Metro is also getting overcrowded with the increase in daily commuters on the new Metro route.
In view of the increasing number of passengers in the peak hour, the Metro-1 administration has also increased the speed of 18 services. Mumbai Metro One trains which used to run at a speed of 65 kmph will now run at a speed of 80 kmph. Similarly, 18 ferries have also been increased in the morning and evening. Metro One officials said that the trains which used to run at a speed of 65 kmph will now run at a speed of 80 kmph. Services will now be available every 3 minutes 40 seconds during peak hours, which was about 4 minutes earlier. This change is expected to decongest the Ghatkopar Metro station.

According to railway officials, since the commencement of Metro 2A and 7 on the new section, there has been a decrease in the number of passengers in local trains. The rush of passengers has reduced at Dahisar, Borivali, Mira Road stations. Earlier Metro One commuters used to get down at Andheri station and depend on local trains to go to western suburbs like Dahisar and Goregaon. They can now get down at WH on Line 1 and travel to Dahisar on Line 7 or go to DN Nagar station and use Line 2A. In the last 12 days, the number of passengers in the new metro has increased from 13 to 14 lakhs.

On the other hand, MMRC has also increased the service of two trains on 2A line from Andheri. Now Metro trains from Andheri West at 9:43 pm and 10 pm will run to Dahisar East instead of Dahanukarwadi Metro Station. At present 238 trips are being made of the new metro.
