New DelhiDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached Ghazipur Dhalwa Ghar on Thursday and said that the upcoming elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be fought on the issue of waste. He promised that if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wins the MCD elections, Delhi will be made clean in five years.

Ahead of Kejriwal’s visit, Ghazipur Dhalava Ghar and the streets of the area witnessed a ruckus and hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters demonstrated against Kejriwal, displayed black flags and raised slogans. AAP workers also raised slogans against the BJP.

Protests from both the parties led to a traffic jam near Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border. Addressing the media at the Dhalwa Ghar site, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP gave three mountains of garbage to the erstwhile three municipal corporations in Delhi during its 15-year rule and filled the entire city with garbage. He said, “The Ghazipur garbage heap is in a way a mountain of BJP’s bad deeds and corruption in the civic bodies. The MCD election will be fought on the issue of waste.”

Kejriwal said, “BJP leaders abuse your son (Kejriwal), your Shravan Kumar who makes you undertake pilgrimage. will you tolerate it? Answer them in the upcoming MCD elections.” When BJP workers protested when he reached Ghazipur Dhalao Ghar for inspection, he alleged that the BJP “doesn’t want anyone to come here”.

Kejriwal claimed, “They deployed policemen to save this mountain of garbage. All evil forces have conspired against us (AAP). He delayed the MCD elections in the hope that he would get seats. Let me tell him that this time even BJP supporters will not vote for him.”

The Delhi chief minister also alleged that the BJP had “misappropriated two lakh crore rupees” during its 15-year rule in the civic bodies. Kejriwal alleged, “They claim that I did not give money to MCD. In the last 15 years, they embezzled Rs 2 lakh crore, out of which Rs 1 lakh crore was given by the Delhi government.”

Taking a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Kejriwal said, “Earlier this month, Shah abused me and alleged that the Delhi government did not give money to MCD, but I want to ask him whether he supported the BJP at the Centre. How much money has been given to the municipal bodies since the formation of the government.

Kejriwal said BJP supporters protested against him and showed him black flags. He asked BJP supporters to protest against him if they want, but give their vote to AAP for Delhi’s sake. Kejriwal promised that he would make the city clean in five years. (agency)
