Bhayandar: The tax burden on the people of Mira-Bhayandar is going to increase in the new year. In the administrative meeting, it has been decided to impose new road tax. The total amount of 10 percent of the general tax mentioned in the property tax bill will be taken as road tax. The state’s ruling BJP-Shinde Shiv Sena is bound to suffer losses due to the imposition of new tax in the election year. Protest against this decision of the administrator has started.

It is noteworthy that the process of making the budget for the financial year 2023-24 of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation has started. The decision to impose 10 per cent road tax has been taken in the administrative meeting. The economic condition of the Municipal Corporation has been cited as the reason behind this.

This much money is spent for CC roads

It has been said in the decision that a network of CC roads has to be laid in the city. An expenditure of Rs 1,150 crore is expected for this. Out of this, Rs 500 crore will be taken as loan from the bank and Rs 500 crore from MMRDA, while Rs 150 crore will be spent from the coffers of the Municipal Corporation. There is no other alternative than imposing new tax for road construction and repayment of loan installment. Under JNNURM, a guarantee was given to increase the source of income of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in the MUVO of AMRUT Yojana.

Former MLA Narendra Mehta protested

Former MLA Narendra Mehta said that the administration has started its arbitrariness after leaving the power of BJP. First public facility plots were given to private builders, then public property was given to private contractors and now it has been decided to impose heavy tax burden on the public. We will never let this happen.

For the last more than 10 years, Municipal Corporation is collecting tax on the benefit of sewerage facility, but in most parts citizens have not yet received this facility. Sewer lines are yet to be laid in some areas, while it is not possible to lay sewage lines in villages and some areas. Road tax is collected from vehicles. Now even pedestrians will have to pay.
