Paddy procurement will stop from November 30 due to the by-election in Mainpuri’s Naveen Mandi. For this, an order has been issued by the District Election Officer. This order will increase the difficulties of farmers and jobbers. Business will remain closed in the market for about ten days. In such a situation, the farmers will have to either stop or move to non-mandis.

Mainpuri is the biggest market for the sale of paddy in the surrounding half-a-dozen districts. Farmers from other districts including Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Firozabad, Etawah, Etah come here to sell paddy. Paddy harvesting work is almost complete. Now the farmer is free from sowing wheat and is engaged in selling paddy. Meanwhile, the administration has completely closed the mandi from November 30 to December 10 for the Lok Sabha by-election in Mainpuri.

The market will be closed from 30 November

In fact, on December 4, polling parties will be sent for polling from Naveen Mandi itself. After voting on December 5, EVMs will be kept in the strong room built in Mandi itself. After this, the counting of votes will be done on December 8. For this, District Election Officer Avinash Krishna Singh has issued an order to close the mandi from November 30 till the counting of votes is over. In such a situation, the jobbers and farmers will have to face trouble for the sale of paddy in these ten days.

Farmers will have to either stay back or go to some other market for sale. Due to less procurement of paddy in nearby mandis, farmers will have to pay more freight on the one hand where they will get less price. In such a situation, farmers and jobbers are worried, but the administration has not found a solution to their problems. The administration has issued an order to vacate the market.

Shops had already been evacuated

The district administration had already vacated the acquired shops of Naveen Mandi. For this, time was given till 13 November. But later, when the agents did not vacate the shops, the administration stopped the purchase of paddy. Later the purchase was started on the condition that they would vacate the shops. After this, the agents vacated the shops and handed them over to the administration.

barricading work started

The work of barricading has also started in Naveen Mandi from Saturday. On the first day, barricading was done outside the shops under the supervision of Public Works Department officials. EVMs will be kept in these shops by taking them from the warehouse. Along with this, the work of barricading has also started on the vacated auction platforms.

Aadhati Satendra Kumar told that the administration had earlier said that some alternative arrangement would be made for the sale of paddy. But instead the administration issued an order to forcibly stop trading in the mandi. Farmer Jayaprakash said that it was learned that the mandi is being closed due to the by-elections. Due to this, he reached the market in a hurry to sell the paddy. Due to more crowd, the prices are getting less. The administration should have kept the market running.

Market Secretary NK Kohli said that due to the by-election, the market has been acquired on the orders of the District Election Officer. The sale of paddy will continue as long as possible. The market will be closed for the least time.
