The celebration of marriage of Lord Shiva-Parvati on Mahashivaratri started in Varanasi from Thursday. Aughadani Neelkanth got colored in the color of turmeric. The symbol of Baba’s silver idol arrived at the former Mahant’s residence at Tedhineem. Turmeric was applied to Lord Shiva in the auspicious time of the evening. Devotees offered thandai, paan and dry fruits to Baba.
On Thursday, for the turmeric ceremony, a group of governors reached the former Mahant’s residence at Tedhineem in the evening. Sanjeev Ratna Mishra decorated Baba Vishwanath in a majestic form and offered aarti and bhog. On one side auspicious songs were being sung and on the other side Baba’s turmeric was being applied.
Oil-turmeric ceremony was performed under the direction of former Mahant Dr. Vice Chancellor Tiwari. Amidst the beat of dholak and tinkling of manjire, auspicious songs were resonating with the wishes of Shiva and Parvati for auspicious marriage. Shivanjali started with dance by Ashish Singh (Dancer Manjari Das) who came from Vrindavan.
