Mumbai: Every day new statements are being seen regarding the Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Dispute. At the same time, two ministers of Maharashtra are going to visit Karnataka. Meanwhile, the state’s deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said on the state ministers’ visit to Karnataka that, as the Karnataka CM said, neither Maharashtra nor Karnataka can decide on this issue. It is SC which will decide and we have faith in SC. Our country is free and we can go wherever we want. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will take the final decision on whether ministers appointed to coordinate the state’s border dispute with Karnataka should visit the disputed areas, he said.

Talking to reporters here, Fadnavis said, “The two ministers, who had earlier announced to visit the disputed areas, have been invited by the local people on the occasion of the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. We are of the opinion that any legal complications should be avoided by arranging such visits to disputed areas. However, the chief minister will take the final call on the ministers’ visit.”

Nothing can stop you from visiting: Fadnavis

There is a dispute as to which state should have administrative control over Belagavi, Karwar and several other villages on the Maharashtra and Karnataka borders. The issue is pending in the Supreme Court since the formation of Maharashtra in 1960. “Nobody should be stopped from going to any place because we are a free country. However, the matter related to the disputed area is still sub judice in the Supreme Court and we wish that there should be no further complications in this matter. Nothing can stop ministers from visiting disputed areas if they decide to do so.”
