It has not yet been decided who will fight with which party in the municipal elections. However, due to unreserved reservation for the post of Mayor, this time the number of contenders is sure to increase and there will be a fierce battle between them. In the last election, there was reservation for women and then 19 women contested the election. The contenders of the major parties who were pacified in the last election due to the seat being a woman, will also openly claim for the ticket this time. With the announcement of reservation for the post of mayor, the claimants have become active.

For the post of Mayor, BJP has maximum ticket claim among BJP, SP and Congress. The reason for this is that the seat has been held by the BJP for 15 years. The maximum number of councilors in 110 wards have also been winning from this party. If you look at the previous record, BJP’s late Dr. SC Rai and Dr. Dinesh Sharma were mayors for two consecutive terms. Last time the party fielded Samyukta Bhatia, who won the seat, for being a woman. SP fielded Meera Vardhan, Congress Prema Awasthi and BSP fielded Bulbul Godial.

In the first general category, in the second OBC and in the third the scheduled caste leaders were placed. The name of outgoing city president Sushil Dixit was in the general category. After not getting the ticket from the Cantt seat in the assembly elections, he has now nominated for the post of Mayor. At the same time, Meera Vardhan, who was the candidate for the post of mayor last time, is again staking her claim.
