Landfill Issue | Where was the Chief Minister of Delhi for the last eight years, Gautam Gambhir's question to Kejriwal on the landfill issue. Navabharat (New India)

New DelhiBJP MP Gautam Gambhir hit out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) making landfill sites an election issue ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections and asked what he had done for the last eight years. Where were you from?

Gambhir, who represents the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, lashed out at AAP in a conversation with PTI. He said the work done at the Ghazipur landfill site in east Delhi is an example of how the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led MCD can “bring about a change”.

Cricketer-turned-politician Gambhir said that in the last eight years, “we have only heard the Chief Minister of Delhi blaming the Center for everything, but no one has asked him what is his responsibility as the Chief Minister.” Gambhir said that Kejriwal should come forward and speak about it. The BJP MP said that the people of Delhi can see for themselves what the Ghazipur landfill site was three years back and what it has become now.

He claimed that its height had reduced by at least 50 feet. The East Delhi MP also questioned the chief minister’s visit to the site after eight years. Kejriwal had visited the Ghazipur landfill site last month and said that the upcoming MCD elections would be fought on the issue of garbage. He has promised that Delhi will be made clean in five years if he is victorious in the MCD elections.

Gambhir said, “I want to ask where was the Chief Minister of Delhi for the last eight years? I wrote a letter in 2020 to work on it and find a solution, but they don’t even have the courtesy to reply.” Apart from Ghazipur, two other landfill sites are located at Okhla and Bhalswa. Gambhir asked, “Not a single vacuum cleaner in eight years. What has the government done to control pollution?” On the excise policy of the AAP government, he said that its withdrawal is enough to tell everything. (agency )
