New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) today i.e. Friday addressed the closing ceremony of the year-long programs organized on the 400th birth anniversary of General Lachit Borphukan of the erstwhile Ahom Kingdom. On this occasion, today PM Modi released the book written on him. Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and others participated in the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan in Delhi and also paid their tributes to him.
We bow to the valiant Lachit Borphukan on his 400th birth anniversary. He played a pivotal role in preserving the culture of Assam.

On this special occasion of today, PM Narendra Modi said that we have got the privilege of celebrating the 400th birth anniversary of Veer Lachit in the period when the country is celebrating the nectar festival of its independence. This historical festival is a glorious chapter in the history of Assam. He said that today the country is full of pride in its heritage leaving the mentality of slavery. Today India is not only celebrating its cultural diversity but also proudly remembering the historical heroes and heroines of its culture.
He further said that when a difficult time, a challenge arose, one or the other Vibhuti incarnated to face it. Saints and sages came to save our spiritual and cultural identity. The warriors born from the womb of mother Bharati faced the invaders. Lachit Barphukan was also such a warrior. He showed that every fire of bigotry and terror has an end, but the life of India remains immortal.

Significantly, the 400th birth anniversary year celebrations of Lachit Borphukan were inaugurated by former President Ram Nath Kovind in Jorhat, Assam in February this year. Lachit Borphukan was a general in the erstwhile Ahom kingdom of Assam. He is recognized for his leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat, in which an attempt by a Mughal army led by Aurangzeb to capture Assam was thwarted. In memory of this victory, Lachit Diwas is celebrated in Assam on 24 November. The Battle of Saraighat was fought on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati.
