Padmashree Irshad Mirza, leather exporter and chairman of Mirza International, died at a private hospital in Sarvodaynagar at 10.45 am on Sunday due to illness. He was 87 years old. The Red Tape brand belongs to his own firm. Along with Mirza International, there was a wave of mourning among tannery businessmen due to the death of Irshad Mirza, who gave international recognition to Red Tape.

On the information of his demise, a large number of people reached his residence on Parvati Bagla Road to pay his last respects. At 7:30 in the evening, his funeral procession left the house for the large Idgah, Benajhabar, where Namaz-e-Janaza was read. After this, his dead body was handed over to the Takia Bisatian cemetery in Colonelganj.

Irshad Mirza used to live with his parents in the early days near the Sunehri Masjid on Nai Sadak. After this he started living in Gwaltoli. Sharif Mohammad Khan, assistant manager of Mirza International, said that Irshad Mirza made this position in the industry after a long struggle. He also worked in Jajmau’s Ahmed Sharif’s tannery. After this the work of raw leather started. Then set up a small tannery. This tannery named Mirza Tannery was later identified as Mirza International Group.

Name has come in Forbes list
He started the company in 1979, which deals in leather manufacturing and tanning and finishing. The leather made in Irshad Mirza’s company is also exported abroad. His name has appeared in the list of influential industrialists of Forbes magazine. Irshad Mirza has also been the chairman of the State Minorities Commission in Rajnath Singh’s UP government. His wife Jameel Ara Begum has passed away in 2017. There are four sons Rashid Mirza, Shahid Mirza, Tauseef Mirza, Tasneef Ahmed Mirza and three daughters Sabiha Hussain, Maria Khan, Wasiya Khan in the family.

Irshad Mirza took it forward by establishing an educational institute, a Sahitya Prachar Academy and many other institutions. He has been the President of the Kanpur Chapter of the Rotary Club. With the Mirza Foundation, he has also built a 100-bed hospital near his factories to provide top-class medical facilities to workers and villagers in rural areas. He has held the responsibilities of Chairman, Leather Export Council, President, Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Uttar Pradesh, Member Managing Committee, Federation of Indian Export Organization, Director of UP State Industrial Corporation. Along with the chairman of the UP Minorities Commission, he was also on the board of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India, UP State Industrial Development Corporation etc.

Struggle of Irshad Mirza
In the year 1979, Irshad Mirza and elder son Rashid Mirza established the then Mirza Tanners Private Limited. Later renamed as Mirza International Private Limited. A small tannery was established at Magarwara in Unnao for the manufacture of finished leather.
Irshad Mirza started his career in the year 1973 as an exporter of leather goods (saddle products). Started business abroad with Rs 25,000 and 40 employees.
– Over a period of 32 years has built up an export business with a turnover of around Rs.350 crores. In this, 11000 people are directly and indirectly associated with employment.
– Developed contemporary saddlery internationally in the year 1975 and took it to Australia, where it was well received.
