Passengers traveling in the train will now be able to enjoy the famous flavors of all the cities. For example, in Lucknow they will be provided with Bajpayee’s Pooris, Shukla’s Chaat, Prakash’s Kulfi… and similar food items from all the local food vendors. IRCTC is registering all such famous vendors by creating a portal to connect them. Both the passenger and the vendor will be benefited by joining e-catering.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will give space to small, big and famous vendors to sell food items on the website, where they can do business by registering. Till now only well-known catering companies used to get a place on this website. Now all the interested vendors can promote the product by registering themselves and earn a good amount of money.

IRCTC has two divisions of Northern Railway including Lucknow and Moradabad, Varanasi, Izzatnagar and Lucknow divisions of North Eastern Railway and all the three divisions of North Central Railway, where passengers of trains will get this facility. Ajit Kumar Sinha, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC, explains that e-catering is such a service, which is a great support for passengers in running trains. All the trains are such that there is no facility of pantry car. In such a situation, e-catering is a boon for the passengers. So far 24 vendors in Lucknow deliver their food items to the passengers after getting registered. Five hundred food items are being delivered daily in Lucknow through e-catering, while there is a lot of scope to increase this number.
Tie-up with Zomato, Swiggy
After the local food vendors of Lucknow join IRCTC, when passengers book food items, the services of Zomato, Swiggy will be taken to deliver the goods from the shop to the train. Items of these vendors will also be available for booking on their website.
