Thane: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Maharashtra unit president Imtiyaz Jaleel on Saturday wanted to know whether changing the name of Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar would solve the problems of the people and issues like unemployment. Describing the state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “puppet” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said the split in the Shiv Sena had adversely affected the people of the state.
Jaleel, MP from Aurangabad, was interacting with the media on the first day of the party’s two-day convention in Navi Mumbai. It is noteworthy that the Central Government has given permission to name Aurangabad city as ‘Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’ and Osmanabad city as ‘Dharashiv’. Chhatrapati Sambhaji was the elder son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the second ruler of the Maratha kingdom founded by his father. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was put to death in 1689 on the orders of Aurangzeb.

Jaleel asked, “Will changing the name of Aurangabad solve the problems of the people here? Now the name has been changed, will the government tell that people living in Aurangabad will get water twice daily. Even today, water is supplied every eight days.” He said, “History will not be changed by changing the name. He will remain the same, whether good or bad. History cannot be tampered with by changing the name.
