Gokul Sahni (40), a history sheeter of Chowk police station, was found lying dead on a barge in the Ganges in front of the Dattatreya temple at Manikarnika Ghat on Wednesday. Gokul had injuries on his face, nose, back and other parts of the body. On the information of the relatives, the police of Chowk police station reached with the team of forensic experts and dog squad, sent the dead body for postmortem.

Gokul Sahni, a resident of Gaumath of Chowk police station area, used to operate a boat. Gokul and his wife live separately. According to the local people, Gokul often used to sleep on his barge at night. On Wednesday morning, he slept on the barge for a long time. When people went to wake him up, he did not budge even after shouting a lot. Seeing the injuries on his body, the police was informed. When the police came, Gokul’s mobile was found lying at a distance from his dead body. In this regard, Inspector Chowk Shivakant Mishra told that Gokul was addicted to drinking alcohol daily. He often used to argue with people after drinking alcohol. At present, the cause of death has not been clarified. Further action will be taken in the case after the cause of death is clear in the postmortem report.
