Some people entered an ancient Shiva temple on Wednesday evening. They set the idol of Parvati on fire by placing the temple seat, broom etc. This broke the idol. Seeing the smoke rising from the temple, the villagers reached the spot, by then the accused had fled. The villagers got angry after seeing the broken idol. Being a religious matter, the police reached in no time. The police pacified the villagers by assuring that the idol would be replaced.
Mahesh Kumar Kayastha had built a Shiva temple years ago in his ancestral land in Majra village Katai of Gram Panchayat Bapandai located on Purdilnagar Marg. According to the villagers, some people entered the temple between 7 and 8 pm. They put the seat, broom etc. kept in the temple on the idol of Parvati. They set fire to the luggage and fled. Seeing the smoke rising from the temple, the priest reached Rampal in no time. He informed the villagers of village Bapandai and Katai about the breaking of the idol. Within no time, the villagers gathered on the spot and anger blossomed among them.
As soon as the information was received about the destruction of the idol in the Shiv temple by setting it on fire, BJP’s sector convenor Tikam Singh Pundhir and his followers reached the spot and demanded the arrest of the accused. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police also reached the spot. Police extinguished the fire. The angry people were explained. People calmed down after the assurance of the police to change the statue. Although people have not given Tahrir to the police. The station in-charge said that the matter is being investigated.
