The wait for the reservation list for the municipal elections ended on Friday evening. The Urban Development Department has released the proposed reservation list of 80 wards of Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation as well as wards of Nagar Panchayats. Seven days have been given to file an objection in the District Magistrate’s office.
According to the proposed reservation list, 34 wards have been reserved for general, 17 for women, 14 for backward classes and seven for backward class women. Similarly, five wards are reserved for SC and three for SC women. The reservation list for the post of Mayor and Nagar Panchayat President is expected to be released on Saturday.
With the release of the reservation list, now the election campaign will intensify. Many candidates will withdraw from the field, then many new faces will appear. Many claimants increased their activism from Friday evening itself and kept knocking on many houses of the ward till late night along with their acquaintances. This activism was more visible on social media.
