The government has given approval for setting up of Bio-CNG plant at Suthni in Sahajanwan of Gorakhpur district. The setting up of Bio CNG plant from organic waste included in solid waste has been handed over to Air Enviro, a company manufacturing Bio CNG plant in Indore in PPP mode.

On Wednesday, the Committee of Secretaries headed by the Chief Secretary has given the green signal to the Expression of Interest (EoI) invited for the establishment of the plant. An amount of about Rs 150 crore will be spent on this plant.

After receiving the application under the EOI, Municipal Commissioner Avinash Kumar Singh had sent the report to the government on October 1 with the approval of the company. Under the scheme, the capacity of Bio-CNG plants in Lucknow and Ghaziabad will be 300-300 TPD, the capacity of plants in Gorakhpur and Varanasi will be 200 TPD.
