The smugglers caught with fake notes worth 27 lakhs in Bareilly have links with Nepal. It is being speculated that fake notes were made in Pakistan or Nepal and sent here. The absconding of both the main ringleaders in the smuggling of fake notes has left many questions unanswered. It may be difficult to catch the Nepali smuggler, but police and STF teams have been engaged to arrest the local white-collar Afsar Ali. The STF Meerut unit had been collecting inputs on cross-border smuggling of counterfeit notes for a long time. The team along with the Bareilly unit carried out this operation. STP and Thana Bhojipura police arrested three accused with counterfeit notes worth Rs 27 lakh from a closed brick kiln near Bhairpur Khajuria, Nainital Road. The arrested accused include Saddam’s son Afsar Ali, resident of Bhairpura, Harvansh alias Sonu and Gurnam Singh of Pilibhit. Prakash, Saddam’s father Afsar and Bhairpura’s Sachin fled from the spot.
Officer used to work in a factory in Nepal
The police got a lot of information in questioning the accused. It is learned that Suresh of Nepal and Afsar Ali of Bhojipura used to work in a factory in Pokhara, Nepal. About a year and a half ago, these people got involved in the business of fake notes. After this the officer returned to the village. Suresh used to provide him fake notes from Nepal.
