In fact, the Shinde government has already decided to increase the electricity rates in the state by 10 to 20 percent. Mahavitaran had kept Rs 1500 crore in reserve to meet the increase in power purchase cost. That fund is over in 2021 itself. Hence, Mahavitaran started charging fuel adjustment fee from 1st April 2022 for the increased purchase.
Electricity bill will increase so much
It may be noted that at present this electricity charge is Rs 1.30 per unit. Now, after this decision of the Shinde government, there will be an increase of 60 to 70 paise in Mahavitaran next month. Therefore, the rate of fuel duty is likely to exceed Rs 2. For the purchase of power, Mahavitaran needs to recover around Rs 40,000 crore. That’s why electricity prices will be increased. Mahanirmiti in the state generates electricity through 30 sets from 7 thermal power plants. By the end of the month of September, the company had borne the power purchase cost of Rs 34 thousand 806 crore. Therefore, now its cost will be recovered from the general public.
