Finally, taking a historic step, BCCI has taken a commendable decision to pay equal match fees to the contracted women and men cricketers. India has become the second country after New Zealand that will not discriminate on the basis of gender in the matter of paying cricket match fees. The Indian women’s cricket team has repeatedly proved its mettle at the international level. Indian women’s cricket team won the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.

Apart from this, Buntingham also won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games. Due to this decision, women cricketers will be given match fees of Rs 15 lakh for each Test, Rs 6 lakh for One Day and Rs 3 lakh for T20 at the same level as male players. Earlier, women cricketers were paid Rs 4 lakh for Test matches and Rs 1 lakh for One Day and T20 matches. Welcoming the BCCI’s decision, cricketer Mithali Raj called it a historic step and said that it is a new dawn for women’s cricket.

Equal match fees and women’s IPL is a step towards taking cricket to where men’s cricket is today. Being a part of the women’s cricket community, Milati thanked the BCCI and its secretary Jay Shah. BCCI President Loser Binny said that this decision will set the stage for the progress and development of cricket. This will be an important step for women’s cricket and the sport as a whole.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that it is a historic decision to give women cricketers the same fees as the men’s cricketers. We are entering a new era of Indian cricket. Barat has taken the appropriate initiative in this matter while Cricket Australia (CA) is currently working towards removing gender contempt. Just like BCCI did justice to women cricket players, so should other sports organizations also do justice to their players and give them the same match fees as men.
