Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has refused to extend the stay on its order granting bail to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following which his There is a possibility of coming out of jail today i.e. on Wednesday. Deshmukh’s counsels Aniket Nikam and Inderpal Singh claimed that the CBI was trying to subvert the earlier order of the High Court, which had said that it would not be extended further under any circumstances. The vacation bench of the High Court, after hearing the arguments, had said, “Further time cannot be extended.” His lawyers told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that the court has refused to extend the stay, so he can be released on bail on Wednesday.

The high court, while granting bail to Deshmukh, had noted that the CBI did not record any statement, except that of sacked police officer Sachin Waje, which indicated that money was being extorted from bar owners in Mumbai at the behest of the NCP leader. . Deshmukh’s bail application was rejected by a special CBI court last month, following which he moved the high court. He is in jail since November 2021. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged money laundering case.

He was arrested by the CBI in April this year in a corruption case. Deshmukh has denied the allegations leveled against him. He is currently in judicial custody at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. The High Court had granted him bail in the ED case in October.
