new Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that there was a breach in the security of the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in Delhi on December 24 and Rahul Gandhi ) failed to control the crowd and form a cordon around him despite having “Z Plus” category security. Party’s organization general secretary KC Venugopal also urged in the letter that further security arrangements should be made for Rahul Gandhi and the yatra in “sensitive states” like Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that on December 24, the situation in Delhi had become such that Congress workers and “Bharat Yatris” had to form a cordon around Rahul Gandhi. He also referred to the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and some other Congress leaders in the past and said that the government should not indulge in vendetta politics and ensure full security of Congress leaders.

The ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, which started from Kanyakumari on September 7, has so far passed through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and is currently on a halt in Delhi. In early January, the Yatra is scheduled to go to Jammu and Kashmir via Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.
