Talking to the media in Kerala, Ashok Gehlot said, ‘I tried to talk to Rahul Gandhi many times that he should become the president. The State Congress Committee has also passed the same resolution, but they have refused it and said that this time no person from the Gandhi family will contest for the post of Congress President.

Gehlot further said, ‘It is certain that I will contest for the post of Congress President. I will fix the date for filing nominations soon. There is a need to strengthen the opposition in view of the present situation of the country, he said.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot further said, ‘Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken and party president Sonia Gandhi will decide the further course of action on becoming the party president’.

Along with Ashok Gehlot, senior party leaders Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor can also nominate for the post of Congress President for the post of Congress President.
