Beijing: Protests broke out in Shanghai, China, on Saturday night, 26 November, against Beijing’s tough COVID-19 policy. Whose video is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, people can be seen raising slogans against the Chinese government’s restrictions on Covid (Chinese Protest Against Zero-Covid Policy).

The protests in China began after an apartment fire in Urumqi left 10 dead and nine injured. Fury over the strict Covid policy was seen among Chinese citizens, the effect of which was that people came out on the streets in large numbers.

DW News East Asia correspondent William Yang shared a video on Twitter that shows people protesting against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) led by Xi Jinping on ‘Urumqi Road’. The protesters raised slogans such as “Remove Communist Party”, “Remove Communist Party” and “Remove Xi Jinping”.

William Yang told in a tweet that, “Countless people gathered on Urumqi Road and shouted slogans, I don’t want PCR test, I want freedom.” While in another tweet, William Yang wrote, “People in Urumqi Road called for an end to the lockdown in Xinjiang as well.”

In another tweet, Yang reported that a scuffle broke out between people and police at a protest site in Shanghai. During this, people also raised the slogan “Step Down CCP”.

Not only this, Joyce Karam, senior US correspondent for The National, also shared a video on her Twitter handle, in which people were seen protesting against the COVID-19 restrictions in Woolloomooee Road. Karam tweeted, “Rare protests have broken out in China’s largest city over COVID restrictions and government regulations. In the video, the crowd is chanting, “We want freedom.”

Let us tell you that the cases of corona have started increasing in China, in such a situation the government imposed lockdown in many cities. According to media reports, 25 million people in Shanghai were put under lockdown for two months earlier this year. After which now people have started coming on the streets. On Friday night, crowds in the streets of Urumqi chanted, “End the lockdown!”
