The main festival of Chhath Puja of Purvanchal started on Friday with Nahay Khai. In Agra and Mathura also, the shade of Chhath will be scattered on the Yamuna Ghats. On bathing, women break the fast by offering arghya to Suryadev at home with gram dal, gourd vegetable. This festival lasts for four days.

According to the Hindu calendar, Chhath Mahaparva begins every year on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month with bathing and eating. After this, on the second day of Kartik Shukla Panchami, devotees keep fast for the whole day and eat food in the evening. It is called ‘Kharna’.

On the day of Kharna, the fasting women keep fast and in the evening, after making a new earthen stove, burning mango wood, making jaggery and rice pudding on it, and after offering it to the sixth Maiya, the women eat plain roti and jaggery kheer.

The fast will end on October 31

On the third day after Kharna, the women of the house prepare prasad for Chhath Maiya and Sun God after taking bath. Thikua, dates are made in the prasad and in the evening they will go to the ghats located on the banks of Yamuna and offer arghya to the setting sun. On October 31, before sunrise in the morning, go to the ghat and offer Arghya to the rising sun. After which the women will break the fast.

Hundreds of devotees will gather for Chhath Puja at Balkeshwar and Rambagh Ghats in Agra. Cleanliness has been done on the Ghats for Chhath Mahaparv. On the other hand, in Mathura also, the people of Purvanchal celebrate Chhath Mahaparva according to the rituals. Here also worship is done on the ghats of Yamuna. There is gaiety among the people of Braj regarding Chhath Mahaparva.
