The first day of Chhath Puja is known as Nahay Khay. Women and men who observe fast on this day purify their mind by having one meal at a time. From this day a lot of care is taken of purity in the house, and it is forbidden to make garlic and onions. On the day of bathing, fasting women eat gourd vegetable, gram dal, rice and radish.
What happens Kharna?
The second day of Chhath Puja is known as “Kharna”. On this day, the fasting fasts for the whole day. Kharna means purification. In the evening of Kharna, fasting women break their day-long fast after worshiping by making prasad of jaggery kheer. Then this prasad is distributed among all. After consuming this prasad, the fast of 36 hours of fasting begins. It is considered auspicious to use a new earthen stove and mango wood for making offerings on this day.
Arghya is offered to the setting sun god in the evening on the third day, due to which it is called “Sandhya Ardhya”. On this day, fasting women drink sugar candy-water kept at night before the sun rises in the morning. After that, the next day, the water has to be drunk only after offering the last Arghya. On the day of Sandhya Arghya special type of dish “Thekuva” and seasonal fruits are offered to the Sun God, and he is offered Arghya with milk and water. Sandhya Arghya will be given on 31st October this year.
