Satpur: Chhath Puja, the four-day long festival of faith, began on Friday, 28 October with the fasting of devotees. Following the special customs and rules, the devotees prayed to accept their worship, after bathing with mango rags, remembering Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya with a sincere heart and inviting them to join the worship. All the fasting people have started preparing with body, mind and wealth.
The songs of Chhathi Maiya playing in the houses since morning made the atmosphere devotional. Chhath festival is celebrated on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla. This festival of Suryopasana is mainly celebrated in the Terai regions of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. During this, worship is done by offering Arghya to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.
Chhath Mahaparv is of four days
Starting from the Chaturthi of the month of Kartik and celebrated till Saptami, this great festival is of 4 days. This time the date of Chhath Puja is 28 to 31 October. Chhath Puja starts from the 5th day of Diwali. The devotees begin Chhath Puja with a ritual bath on Friday, after bathing and eating gourd vegetables, gram dal and rice, which will continue till the rising sun is offered Arghya on Monday morning.

Prices of worship items increased
The rate of goods used for Chhath Puja has increased as compared to normal days. Gourd, which is sold for 10 to 15 rupees, is being sold for 25 to 30 rupees. At the same time, the prices of other items and fruits including sugarcane, jaggery, lemon, coconut, dauri (basket), dagra, soup, carrot, radish, pineapple are skyrocketing.
