New DelhiThe Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday said it has attached 32 properties worth over Rs 1.58 crore belonging to a person who was a “close confidante” of Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mandal in connection with its money laundering probe linked to the West Bengal cattle smuggling case. has been done
The ED said in a statement that a provisional order has been issued against Sehgal Hussain and his family members under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED said that the total value of the attached properties has been pegged at Rs 1,58,47,490. The probe agency said Hussain was “a close confidant of Mandal and one of the key members of this smuggling ring operating along the India-Bangladesh border”.

ED has questioned Anubrata Mandal and his daughter Sukanya in this case. Mandal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and is in judicial custody. In this case, the ED has arrested Hussain, the main accused in the case Anamul Haque and Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant rank officer (36th Battalion of BSF) Satish Kumar. All three are currently in judicial custody.
Satish Kumar, posted in Murshidabad and Malda areas of West Bengal, was earlier arrested by the CBI in connection with the cattle smuggling case. The ED had registered a criminal case against the accused in September 2020, taking cognizance of the CBI’s complaint. The agency has so far filed two chargesheets in this case and with this latest seizure, the total assets worth Rs 20.25 crore have been attached so far.(Agency)
