New DelhiDelhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said the Union Budget 2023-24 presented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government is nothing but a ‘jumla’ and will plunge the country into debt. Sisodia is also the Finance Minister of Delhi. He said that the debt of Rs 15 lakh crore will increase with this budget.

“We all know that the BJP has made the promise of bringing ‘Acche Din’ a ‘jumla’, he said at a press conference. The budget of the BJP-led Center is nothing but a ‘jumla’. We have heard many such jumlas in the past – like the introduction of bullet trains or the promise of doubling farmers’ income or creating 60 lakh jobs.

He alleged that this budget would plunge the country into debt. He claimed that the Center had a debt of Rs 53 lakh crore till 2014 and during the two consecutive terms of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, the country had a debt of Rs 150 lakh crore and that “this budget Will drown India in an additional debt of Rs 15 lakh crore.

He said that the budget is disappointing for the people of Delhi. He said the national capital has been allocated only Rs 325 crore as tax subsidy while Delhi pays an income tax of Rs 1.75 lakh. Sisodia claimed that the amount of Rs 325 crore has not changed in the last 22 years. He claimed that the budget did nothing to create jobs or control inflation. (agency)
