Mumbai: On Thursday morning, the BMC commissioner sealed the offices of all the parties following a dispute between rival factions of the Shiv Sena over the occupation of the party office in BMC on Wednesday. BMC Administrator and Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that this step has been taken temporarily on the instructions of Mumbai Police following the incident at BMC Headquarters.
All major political parties were allotted offices by the BMC on the ground floor of the BMC headquarters. Rival factions led by Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde engaged in a heated exchange of words at the party office at the BMC headquarters in south Mumbai on Wednesday evening. A tense situation prevailed in the campus for an hour till the police intervened.

The corporators of the Uddhav faction staged a protest outside the BMC commissioner’s cabin after the party office was sealed. A former corporator said when he reached the office on Thursday morning, he found the party office sealed. Our party office was sealed even before we reached here in the morning. The leaders of the Uddhav faction met the BMC commissioner and demanded to open the party office, but the commissioner refused.

Former Standing Committee President Yashwant Jadhav had sided with the Shinde faction following a rebellion in the Shiv Sena. After which his name was covered with tape outside the Shiv Sena party office in BMC. Yashwant Jadhav had removed the tape before the brawl on Wednesday. There was tremendous drama on the nameplate on Thursday. On Thursday, the corporators of the Uddhav faction repainted Yashwant Jadhav’s name with paint after protesting outside the commissioner’s cabin, but at 4 p.m. the paint was found to have come off. A worker of Yashwant Jadhav removed the paint on Jadhav’s name despite the security of police and BMC. At present, there is a tussle between the two factions of the Shiv Sena to occupy the Shiv Sena office at the BMC headquarters.
