The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided several locations of the Popular Front of India (PFI) after midnight on Thursday. These raids have been done in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry.

The central government is preparing for action on PFI, Bhaskar had told about this only on 9 August. A team was also formed for this.

The Islamic fundamentalist organization PFI has reportedly been involved in many terrorist activities, but so far it has not been banned. This organization came under the radar of the Center after the murder of Karnataka BJP leader Praveen Nettaru. It is very likely that 2022 will be the last year of PFI.

PFI activists are protesting against the raids by NIA and ED in Mallapuram in Kerala, Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Mangaluru in Karnataka.

The plan of action on PFI was made during the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah to Bengaluru on 4 August. Amit Shah had come here to participate in a program. After the program, there was a meeting between Amit Shah, Karnataka CM Basava Raj Bommai and state Home Minister Araga Gyanendra.

In this meeting, it was decided to make a plan to eliminate PFI. After 3 days, that is, on 7th August, a team was formed to work on the plan.

The action team includes some top officials of Delhi and Karnataka as well as people from Intelligence. The Central Government has also prepared a list of officers from across the country who have been involved in the investigation of such sensitive cases in the past.

This team will work on 3 fronts against PFI not only in Karnataka but in all parts of the country. The task of the team is mainly to collect such documents against PFI, which can collect evidence against its plans not only at the national but also at the international level.

Work on 3 fronts against PFI

  • Mapping the network of PFI. Starting from Karnataka, but a map will also be prepared for all those areas of the country where even a single person associated with PFI lives.
  • To trace the sources of funding of PFI. Also collect all the documents related to it.
  • The joint team will revisit all the riots or incidents in which the name of PFI came up.

Elections in Karnataka are likely to be held by February-March next year. This was also discussed while preparing the action plan. In such a situation, big action can be taken against PFI before the election.

Earlier, the involvement of PFI in the Udaipur massacre in Rajasthan and the murder of pharmacist Umesh Kolhe in Maharashtra had also come to the fore. Meanwhile, a large network of PFI has also been busted in Patna.

PFI is spread in 20 states of the country
After the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, Muslims in Kerala established the National Development Fund (NDF) in 1994. Gradually its popularity increased in Kerala and the involvement of this organization in communal activities also came to the fore.

In 2003, NDF activists were arrested for the murder of 8 Hindus at Marad Beach in Kozhikode. After this incident, BJP made allegations of NDF having links with ISI, which could not be proved.

Apart from Kerala, organizations named Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) in Karnataka and Manitha Neeti Pasarai (MNP) in Tamil Nadu were working for the Muslims at the grassroots level. These organizations were also getting involved in violent activities.

A meeting was held in Delhi in November 2006. After this NDF merged with these organizations and PFI was formed. Since then this organization has been working. At present it is active in 20 states of the country.

PFI banned only in Jharkhand
According to PFI National General Secretary Anees Ahmed, PFI is currently banned only in Jharkhand. Against this, PFI has also appealed in the court. Earlier also we were banned, but Ranchi High Court lifted the ban. This ban will also be removed soon.
