Maharashtra : A 62-year-old man from Tamil Nadu, who was involved in the Congress’ ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Nanded district of Maharashtra, died after being hit by a truck and another from the state. The person got injured. A police officer gave this information on Friday. They said they were on their way back to Pimpalgaon Mahadev village of Ardhpur tehsil for the night camp of the yatra after attending Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting in Nanded on Thursday when the accident happened at around 8.20 pm, he said.

Expressing grief over the incident, Rahul Gandhi said, “A true soldier of the party and a dear companion in the Bharat Jodo Yatra” has been lost. He said that the incident took place under Ardhpur police station. An officer from Ardhpur police station said, “A truck hit two people involved in the Bharat Jodo Yatra when they were returning to the Pimpalgaon Mahadev camp of the yatra after participating in Rahul Gandhi’s rally.”

He said the deceased has been identified as Ganesan Ponaraman, a native of Thanjavur. Another passenger named Sayyul (30) from Tamil Nadu suffered minor injuries in the accident, he said. Rahul Gandhi said in a post on Facebook, “Very saddened by the passing away of our fellow traveller, Shri P. Ganesan ji. He was a committed worker of the Congress, who participated in every campaign and campaign of the party in the last three decades. In him we have lost a true soldier of the party and a dear companion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He said, ‘I express my deepest condolences to his family and well wishers. His dedication towards the country and Congress party will serve as an inspiration to all of us in our efforts to unite the country. The ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ reached Maharashtra on November 7. It is the 65th day of the journey. After Nanded the yatra will move towards neighboring Hingoli district (Agency)
