BBC Documentary Row | 'They waste the precious time of the Supreme Court', know why Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said this. Navabharat (New India)

New Delhi: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday hit out at those challenging in the Supreme Court the Centre’s decision to ban a BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots in the Supreme Court, saying they “Waste” the precious time of the apex court.

Rijiju reacted on Twitter to senior journalist N Ram, lawyer Prashant Bhushan and others challenging in the Supreme Court the Centre’s decision to ban the documentary “India: The Modi Question”. “Thus they waste the precious time of the Hon’ble Supreme Court where thousands of common citizens are waiting for justice and seeking dates,” he said.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala took note of the submissions made by advocates ML Sharma and N Ram and senior advocate CU Singh, appearing for Bhushan. Both the lawyers had sought urgent hearing of their separate PILs on the issue.

It may be noted that on January 21, the central government had issued directions to block several YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the controversial British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) documentary “India: The Modi Question”. (agency)
