The Allahabad High Court has requested retired High Court Justice Sudhir Narayan to conduct an inquiry into the development of the Thakur Banke Bihari Ji Maharaj temple complex in Mathura and its surrounding areas and submit a report to the court. Along with this, the court has directed the Justice to provide a copy of the affidavit filed by the Special Secretary, Charitable Affairs, Government of Uttar Pradesh, so that he can give his report after being aware of the government’s proposal regarding development.

The order was passed by a division bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice JJ Munir while hearing the petitions filed by Anant Sharma and others. On behalf of the state government, Additional Advocate General Manish Goyal presented the government’s side and filed an affidavit on behalf of Secretary, Charitable Affairs, Uttar Pradesh.

In the affidavit filed, a proposal has been presented to streamline the crowd at Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura. The court has asked the government to give this proposal to retired Justice Sudhir Narayan so that he can study it and submit his report.

Expressing doubt on the development action plan presented by the government, the servants of the temple said through their lawyers that they are apprehensive that the government should not interfere in the management of the temple in the name of development.

The court has directed the government to provide all facilities to retired Justice Sudhir Narayan so that he can submit his report. The Court has directed the Registrar Compliance of the High Court to give a copy of the order to retired Justice Sudhir Narayan. The court will next hear this petition on 16 December 2022.
