Ashok Gehlot Meets Sonia Gandhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath. The CM of Rajasthan can nominate for the Congress President’s election. Earlier on the previous day, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had taken a meeting of the legislature party at his residence. In which he had indicated to contest the Congress Presidential election.

Before meeting Sonia Gandhi, the CM of Rajasthan said that I am fortunate that I have the affection and trust of Congressmen across the country. If I am asked to do so, I will file nomination. I am here to serve Congress, I am taking responsibility as CM and will continue to do so.

What did Gehlot say on contesting elections?

He said that whatever responsibility is given, I will fulfill it. Position is not important to me. The election to elect the Congress President is an open process and anyone can contest the election. He said that a person can remain a minister and can also be elected as Congress President.

There was a stir over the election of the president

Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor today met Madhusudan Mistry, chairman of the Congress’s Central Election Authority, to discuss his candidature amid the ongoing stir over the Congress President’s election. Mistry said that we have answered all his (Shashi Tharoor) questions regarding the election of Congress President.

Madhusudan Mistry said that we explained to him about the election rules, number of agents and their roles, discussed how to fill the form for the election. Anyone is eligible to contest the election provided he is a representative of Congress. The election to choose the next president of the Congress will be held on October 17, while the counting of votes will be held on October 19.
