Allahabad University's foundation day today: 'Oxford of the East' changed with smart classrooms and laboratories

Today (September 23) 135 years have been completed for the establishment of Allahabad University (IVV). Started with just 13 students, Mayor College has come to be known as the ‘Oxford of the East’. The plant that was planted here became a banyan tree. Its saga is thrilling. It is another matter that the time has brought such a situation that the university which was called the factory of IAS, today the production of officers has almost come to a standstill.

The challenge is also how to make it to the top 200 institutes of the country released by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). However, the latest decisions and efforts of the management give a positive sign. From smart classrooms, new laboratories to massive recruitment of faculty, the research avenues that have opened up show the resolve that the university has shifted gears towards achieving its credentials. Amit Saran reports…

There was a time when MNNIT and Medical College were also part of IVIV. Later it was separated from the university and the university was reduced to an institution of only 40 departments. Institutions like BHU also have their own engineering and medical colleges. He has been getting the advantage of this in the rankings. The university administration is now preparing to start the Faculty of Agriculture. For this a proposal has been sent to the Union Ministry of Education.

Vice Chancellor Prof. On the initiative of Sangeeta Srivastava, a new chapter of the university has started with the appointment of about two hundred and fifty teachers in the university within a year. Teachers from institutions like JNU, BHU, IIT have come to teach here. Efforts are made that they can be given the best facilities, so that they can develop the field of research here.

In Scopus, the paper will be printed in the index journal itself.

NIRF does not take research information from the university concerned, but it gets this information from the Scopus institution. This organization works like Google. Research information is found by searching. About a thousand research papers are written at IVI every year, but not all papers are published in the index journals at Scopus. It has now been made mandatory that all research papers should be compulsorily printed in the index journal in Scopus, so that the correct information of research reaches NIRF.

Name of supervisor, university required in every paper

A few days ago, a notice has been issued in the IVI that the name of the supervisor and IVI should be compulsorily entered in every research paper. This process was not being followed in all the research papers in IVI. Many research students did not even write the name of the supervisor and the university in their paper, due to which the related research was not being added to the account of the university. Changes in the process will increase the number of researches in the account of IVI.

Patent cell created in Iviv

Patent scores are also included in the NIRF ranking and these scores are very important. To allow more and more research to be patented, a patent cell has been created by the IVI administration 15 days in advance. The university has had five patents this year, the number of which is more than in previous years. Among them, JK Institute’s Prof. Ashish Khare, Center of Food Technology Prof. Neelam Yadav, Professor of Home Science Department. One each of Sangeeta Srivastava and Prof. Shekhar Srivastava has two research patents.

Teachers will get five lakh rupees for research

Vice Chancellor Prof. Sangeeta Srivastava has decided that new teachers appointed in the university, and especially science teachers, will be provided five lakh rupees as seed money from the university account for research. For this, the university administration has also sought projects from the teachers. The aim is that the new teachers should research and take it forward with the seed money, so that big projects can be found in the future.

18 new laboratories, smart classrooms also ready

Recently MN Saha Complex has been opened in the Faculty of Science of IVI. It has 18 laboratories, where students of science subjects can come and do research. In this, an instrumental complex will also be prepared, in which expensive and state-of-the-art equipment will be kept. Students can use these tools. Smart Classroom has also been completed in MN Saha Complex. All these facilities will add to the marks of EVI during the ranking determination.

10 new courses started under new education policy

Under the new education policy, 10 new integrated courses are being started in the University. Some of these courses have been started from the session 2022-23. The university administration has also sent this information to the Ministry of Education and UGC. From the session 2023-24, preparations have been made to fully implement the new education policy in the University. Proposals for new courses have also been prepared.

Incubation center also expected to improve ranking

Incubation center has been started recently in IVIV. This center has been opened to promote startups. A few months back the CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange also came here and the students presented some projects to him.
