The Allahabad High Court has reserved its verdict on anticipatory bail applications of Sam Higginbottom Agricultural University Naini, Prayagraj Vice Chancellor Professor RB Lal, brothers Vinod B Lal and Mathew Samuel, among others. Along with this, the court has kept the ban on the arrest of all till the final verdict. This order was given by Justice Manju Rani Chauhan, Binod B. Lal, Prof. It has been given while hearing the anticipatory bail applications of Rajendra Bihari Lal, Mathew Samuel and others.
An FIR has been lodged in Fatehpur against the Lal brothers for forcibly converting them. While hearing the application earlier, the court had directed the petitioners to appear before the investigator on February 1 and 15 to record their statement and cooperate in the investigation.
The court had also directed that the petitioner should give an undertaking before the adjudicator on February 13 and surrender his passport. Till then they will not be arrested. During the hearing, it was said that the allegations of forced conversion are baseless and politically motivated. The petitioner is not named in the FIR, his name has been included later on the basis of statement of two witnesses. It was also said that the investigating officers are prejudiced. The reality is that the petitioner is not even a member of the church by which conversion is alleged. The petitioner is the Vice-Chancellor of Sam Higginbottom Agricultural University.
