The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has arrested a key member of the racket involved in cheating in the name of jobs in different states of the country from Jamalpur. Till now, it is estimated that more than 50 thousand people have been cheated in five states through this racket. Odisha Police has arrested him from here on the basis of warrant. However, instead of telling much officially, Odisha Police has said that further information will be given on the basis of investigation.

Odisha EOW team reached Aligarh on the night of 29 December with arrest warrant. Met the officers here and sought help in arresting 25-year-old Zafar Ahmed s/o Razzak Ahmed of Civil Lines Jamalpur Hamdard Nagar-A, Gol Market. The team told that this person is a special member of the racket cheating in the name of job. On this basis, the team arrested him from here and took him away. According to SI Tapash Shahu, who is part of the team, it is a racket of tech-savvy people, who attract the unemployed by creating fake websites.

This racket, which became active during the Corona lockdown period in 2020, has so far targeted the unemployed in Odisha, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal. According to an estimate, more than 50 thousand people would have been duped. Caught Zafar is a civil engineer by profession. During initial interrogation, he accepted that more engineers were involved in the racket. These people also run their own call center of more than 50 people, who were given a monthly salary of Rs 15,000.

Most of the people in the call center were from Jamalpur and surrounding areas. This racket has so far used more than 1 thousand SIM cards, 530 mobile phones, more than 100 Mule bank accounts and used to withdraw money from those accounts through public service centers. SP City Kuldeep Singh Gunawat accepted that the Odisha Police team had sought help. The team had come with the warrant. She arrested him and took him away.
